As part of our continuing remit to improve the availability of skills training, whenever possible the Hand Engravers Association offers courses to people of all skill levels; from complete novices, to improvers, to practiced metalsmiths wishing to hone a particular engraving skill. Hand Engraving Six Week Short Course

Wednesday 7th March – Wednesday 11th April   FULLY BOOKED

Details: This is a six week course taking place one Wednesday per week from 6-9pm (other dates or times can be discussed if necessary). As part of our continuing remit to encourage professional engravers to share their skills and experience, the Hand Engravers Association is holding a series of evening courses. This unique initiative is aimed at all skill levels, from complete novices, to improvers, to practiced metalsmiths wishing to hone a particular engraving skill. In this hands-on, practical course you will learn from highly skilled professionals in a workshop environment. With a maximum quota of five students, classes are highly individualised.

For beginners, the aims are to develop a sound basic understanding of the tools, techniques and materials used in hand engraving, on which to progressively build skills and knowledge. For improvers and professionals, the objective will be to develop your skills under the guidance of an experienced tutor, with the aim of honing those areas that you think need improving, and adding new skills to your repertoire.

Hand Engraving Intensive Short Course

Start Date: Spring 2012 – Dates To Be Confirmed

Details: This is an intensive three day course following the same structure as our six week evening course.Aimed at all skill levels, from complete novices, to improvers, to practiced metal smiths wishing to hone a particular engraving skill. In this hands-on practical course you will learn from highly skilled professionals in a workshop environment. With a maximum quota of five students, classes will be highly individualized.

Drop In Classes In Hand Engraving

Details: The Association is pleased to be introducing Drop In Classes for those who have already completed our 6 week evening course in hand engraving,

For improvers and professionals, the objective will be to develop the skills you have learnt on the six week evening course under the guidance of an experienced tutor, with the aim of honing those areas that you think need improving, and adding new skills to your repertoire.

These classes will cover:

The setting up, sharpening and polishing of appropriate tools of the craft
Holding devices and methods
Marking out and transferring techniques
The cutting of metal, with exploration of combined techniques
Production of samples from a supplied master
Methods of erasure
Finishing techniques

Please note: You must have completed our six week evening course in order to attend the drop in classes.
