I am a point 5 senior lecturer at The Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design in the School of Jewellery and Silversmithing, where I run and organise the Short Course Programme.
I also run my own business where I specialise in engraving one-off pieces, mainly in 18ct gold. The work often incorporates coloured gemstones.
I was taught engraving by Fred Fryer and Stan Reece in the early 70′s at the Cass. I have used engraving as a basis for much of my jewellery practice for over 30 years.
Recently, work has moved into larger “Spinning Bowls” in silver where the engraving on the surface of the vessels can be animated by gently spinning the bowl on its stone base. My love of colour can be seen in the use of enamels and unusual gilding colours as part of the expression of the Symbolism of the piece.
