Philip Gough was born in Kensington, London, in 1955. He served a five year apprenticeship as a hand engraver with Guill & Stevenson Hand Engravers of Hatton Garden, London, which he successfully completed in 1976. In 1982, Philip moved abroad to Israel. He found work as an engraver with Israel’s premier Judaica Silversmith, Hazorphim, after which he became self-employed and soon developed his artistic style of engraving, which was much in demand by numerous independent silversmiths in Jerusalem, whose prime market is in the U.S.A.

Philip designed Jewish religious items, “Judaica”, in which the main focus of the silverware was the sympathetic and unique engravings depicting the various religious festivals and sacred sites in Israel.

He has engraved commissioned items that were presented to American presidents, Israeli prime ministers, the King of Jordan, prominent Rabbis, synagogues world-wide, and Judaica Museums.

Philip returned to England in 1997, and found employment with R.H Wilkins Engravers, London.

From his base in Aldershot, Hampshire, he continues to engrave for R.H Wilkins along with local silversmiths and jewellers, and three Jerusalem silversmiths exporting to the U.S.A.
