PHILIP GOUGH

It is with much sadness that we report that Philip Gough passed away unexpectedly this March. Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time. The funeral will be held on Tuesday 7 April 2015.

Philip was a very active member of the Hand Engravers Association, coming to many events including the recent "Training the Trainers" meeting in Birmingham. Many of our committee and members had known him for many years and he will be sorely missed. The following message has come from Emmet Smith, Director at RH Wilkins Engravers:

FEATURED MAKER - Lucy Moseley, apprentice engraver

In each of our newsletters, we like to highlight a 'Featured Maker'. This December we would like to highlight apprentice gun engraver Lucy Moseley. In her own words, this is Lucy's story:

I first learnt how to engrave whilst studying jewellery manufacture in Hatton Garden in 2012; I enjoyed engraving the most, and so decided to specialise as an engraver. Finding a place to train seemed difficult at first, particularly as I lacked the confidence to approach people in the field. However, I met many engravers during the Cut In Clerkenwell event put on by the Hand Engravers Association...Read More

TRAINING THE TRAINERS: Addressing the training needs of hand engravers for the future
Two important events addressing the training needs of hand engravers for the future will be taking place in 2015 in London and Birmingham. These events are supported by the Goldsmiths’ Company out of a shared concern for the future of hand engraving. These issues affect all of us and we would therefore like as many people to participate from the field of hand engraving and associated crafts as possible. Full details will...Read More
