ACHIEVEMENTS

Since The Hand Engravers Association founded in 2007, we are proud to have achieved the following:

TRAINING:

·         Six formal apprenticeships

·         Five other hand engravers trained to professional level

·         Regular weekday evening classes and weekend intensive courses

·         Events in London, Scotland, Birmingham, Liverpool and Kent to discuss future developments

·         Demonstrations at university arts departments

 

PUBLICISING THE CRAFT:

·         Exhibitions at Craft Central and other London venues

·         Permenanet display of engraving in the Clockmakers Museum at the Science Museum, London

·         Cut in Clerkenwell – 12 days of inviting the public to try engraving

·         Demonstrations at Art in Action, British Shooting Show, Midland Game Fair etc

·         Special photography of modern engraved pieces

·         Three videos on different aspects of hand engraving

·         Extensive website – with ability for individual engravers to promote their work

·         Regular newsletter to members and those keen to know about our work

·         Speeches and published articles

 

ACADEMIC RESEARCH:

·         Compiling an archive of all hand engravers 1900-2000 which is now held at the London Metropolitan Archives

·         Book published about the engraving firm JJ Bergin, 1894 to present day

 

LIAISON WITH OUTSIDE GROUPS / BODIES:

·         Cooperated with National Association of Jewellers, Contemporary British Silversmiths, Association for Contemporary Jewellery, Institute of Professional Goldsmiths and other groups with connection to our craft

·         Lobbied government including at ministerial level about apprentices and money for these

·         Worked closely with the Clockmakers Company and both the Goldsmiths Centre and the Goldsmiths Company
